KANSAS TERRITORIAL LEATHERS

It was in 1955 that John H. Tyson met Mr. Charles Tandy in Fort Worth, Texas , and received his first set of leather tools and equipment. Since that time Mr. Tyson has worked with leather increasing his skills and gaining experience in the Old West art of leather working. Countless belts, holsters, and cowboy items have been created and tooled over the years, each with the care and pride found in the finest of the Ole West originals.

Kansas Territorial Leathers creates reproductions of Old West leather goods used on the plains from 1850 to 1900. These items enjoy a timeless appeal to westerners. As other outdoorsmen and shooters become familiar with western history through old films, historical books and photographs, or cowboy action shooting sports, they begin to appreciate leather goods of the old style.

Mr. Tyson has a proud history of the finest in floral tooling dating back to that time in Fort Worth. He has not only the ability to do floral tooling, but more importantly, to create floral designs in the Old West style that fits the character of the western goods he makes.

In Kansas and some other western states, there are places where signs can be seen along the roads proclaiming open range. Now it means stock is unfenced and may be in the roadway. It used to mean all stock were free to go where they wanted to graze. In these places cowboys and western gear can be seen in their natural elements. John Tyson at Kansas Territorial Leathers produce leather goods in the Old West open range style; all by hand, all with natural components.

Some say that when you hold western gear from Kansas Territorial Leathers you not only hear the creaking sound that fine leather makes but the sounds of chuck wagon wheels, cattle hooves and cowboys working and living on the open range.
